I LOVE the Store for Knowledge! I freely admit, that we’re all a bit on the science-nerdy side, here in the lost world, so when the opportunity to review one of their Ginormous Geodes and a laminated Introduction to Rocks poster, I jumped on it!

Intact Geodes -appearances can be deceiving!
For those who may not know, geodes are geological rock formations which occur in sedimentary and certain volcanic rocks. Geodes are essentially rock cavities or vugs with internal crystal formations or concentric banding. The exterior of the most common geodes is generally limestone or a related rock, while the interior contains quartz crystals and/or chalcedony deposits. Some geodes are completely filled with crystal, being solid all the way through.
You might find this inside a geode -

or this -

or even this!

How cool does that sound? Trust me, the crystal formations inside a geode must be seen to be believed and appreciated! Some are absolutely breath-taking and you never know, before you crack one, what you’ll find. Each is as individual and beautiful as you are!

Introduction to Rocks Poster (Laminated)
The Earth is made of rocks and this poster provides a comprehensive overview of what they are and how they are formed. It begins by explaining that rocks are made of minerals and that each type of rock is the result of a specific mixture of minerals subjected to a clearly defined geological process. The bulk of the poster is divided into three sections, one for each type of rock: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. An illustration shows how they are made. It is followed by photographs of a dozen representational specimens. A dramatic photograph shows a natural formation. A bonus section shows and explains some of the more specialized and popular rock forms such as geodes, concretions, agates and thunder balls. This is a great poster for earth science classes, but one also appreciated by rock collectors as it is a helpful resource for identification.
I don’t want you to think, for a minute, that the only things stocked by the Store for Knowledge are geology related. No Siree! They have a large variety of science kits, encompassing many different interests, they have building toys, dinosaur toys, room decor, books and puzzlesgalore. You’re sure to find something for everyone on your Christmas list, big or little, at the Store for Knowledge!
They even have an "ugly box" section with savings up to 50%!! The items in the ungly box section are brand new and in perfect condition, but have torn or crunched packaging. Some items may have minor defects. All package or product defects are described in the description of each product. This is a great way to save some extra money, especially if you are going to throw away the outer box. Please note ugly box items are excluded from current discounts offered. What a great idea, and one I've never seen offered anywhere else before!
OK, here’s the part you’ve been waiting for. The great folks at Store for Knowledge are giving one of my readers an chance to win a Ginormous Geode and Laminated Introduction to Rocks poster for their own lucky budding geologist to find under the tree on Christmas morning! Thank you so much!
Here’s what you do ~

I would LOVE to win this for my kids. They are totally enchanted with stones, rocks, geodes and the like. We have a Tourmaline mine in the hills behind our house that the kids love to visit. And my son chose a birthday trip to an old gold mining town last year that just floored the kids with all the gems. This would be an amazing addition to our growing collection, and allow the kids to learn to identify what they’ve found!
I used to collect geodes as a child so this is great!
LOL I love Life in the Lost World!!

Have been a rock nut since I was a kid. There is a rock mound at our lake country home that I started when I was 12. I still add to it occasionally and am trying to get my granddaughters to do so also. Just find a rock or stone, no matter where you are, and if it speaks to you add it to the pile. It has rocks from Hong Kong, Scotland, UK, France, Canada and Mexico, all over the US and a few from a pen pal in Australia. I don’t identify them I figure they know who they are and where they come from and that is all that matters. Last year at Halloween we put some candles on the pile and lit them Halloween Eve and it was an amazing thing to see and several of the viewers said they could see different pictures in the smoke. My eyesight is not very good anymore but those who did see the sights gave good descriptions of them and we wrote them down in a diary for the family. We will do it again this year.
My son would love this… he is so into geology right now!
The excitement of not knowing what the geode may hold inside…that’s it’s 100% natural from the earth not a man-made gimmick makes it a wonderful prize to win!

We used to have geodes in neighboring counties that you could pick up by the dozens. We had rock gardens made of open geodes. Now it’s a rare thing to find a geode. That’s a shame. I would love to have one now.

I have seen jewelry made out of Geodes..so pretty!!
Since I’m such a meanie, I’m use to typing with my toes. LOL
Seriously, I think (I know) that being a rock hound can start out at toddler years. My little granddaughter (age 2) has a fascination with rocks. She collects them, looks at them intensely and quietly and I must say, she has a good eye for a youngin’. Her collections aren’t just gravel from the driveway. She has preferences. She really amazes me. With her on my lap, we have looked at images on google at rocks. It’s really uncanny. Well, I’m getting a cramp in my toes so better just say thanks for the opportunity.

I’ve been studying rocks, crystals and geodes since I was a kid! We went on our annual family dude ranch trip and I found a cool rock that I picked up because it looked like a bar of soap, I was told it was no ordinary rock and I’ve been hooked ever since!
