Mohawk Home

“Mohawk Home, the rug division of Mohawk Industries, is the largest manufacturer of area rugs, indoor and outdoor mats, and washable rugs in the United States.

Because we participate in a fashion industry, Mohawk Home employs a team of design professionals specifically recruited for their expertise in textiles and floor covering innovation. With a commitment to relevance in style we are continuously creating trend setting designs and constructions as well as updating timeless classics.

While we view ourselves as an innovative, fashion-design company, we never lose focus on our mission to produce the highest quality and value-oriented products possible, while minimizing our impact on the world around us. As part of the largest flooring manufacturer in the world, we are able to control quality from raw materials to the finished product. Through sustainable manufacturing and the dedication of our associates we can ensure that the Mohawk product always delivers the best value at the best price with world-class service.”

I’ve written here before about tradition, companies I grew up with and brands that I trust. Mohawk is one of those brands.

My Dad was the Director of Quality Control at Martin Marietta (remember them? before the merge with Lockeed?) If there’s one thing he knew, it was quality. He was also kind of, shall we say cheap? (Ok, frugal is a nicer term) Dad wouldn’t spend a nickel more than he had to and never spent a cent on low quality goods. He knew that low prices, as it related to low quality ended up costing much more in the long run. He insisted on Mohawk carpeting and he was right. I don’t remember my mother EVER changing the carpeting in our living room and it always looked wonderful…that’s quality!

Fast forward a few years. When we built our house, it was after a devasting house fire. We were on a shoestring budget and in a hurry so we cut a few corners. Our carpeting was one of those corners that got cut. Even the best padding won’t help an inferior carpet for long, we found to our chagrin. Live and learn.

before

When I was offered a review for one of Mohawk Home’s great area rugs, I, quite frankly jumped on it. I couldn’t wait to give my living room space a bit of a well deserved facelift!

For two days I poured over the various designs, settling at last on something very different than the deep green we already have. I was hoping that the earth tones I chose would be a nice compliment to our exsisting carpeting and I was right (I think)

My rug arrived just before Christmas and let me tell you, I had things moved and that rug on the floor in an hour! I love it! It gave my space an entirely different look – comfortable and woodsy – and I’ve had so many compliments already! It feels great under bare feet too (very important to someone, like me, who hates wearing shoes!)

after

The quality was evident, from the moment we unrolled the rug, beginning with the carefully rendered design all the way to the well finished edges. There were no loose threads, the pile is deep and soft and it’s overall, a joy to have in my living room.

Want to hear the best part? The wonderful folks at Mohawk Home want to help you give your space a new look for the new year too and are offering one of you the chance to win one of their fabulous area rugs! Our winner will be able to choose any rug, up to 5′ x8′ and $150 to help you on your way!! Thank you so much, Mohawk Home!
