Disclosure: This review was made possible by Mom Spark Media and was not written while under the influence of these excellent wines. Thoughts are my own and I was under no obligation to post a positive review. I received a 2 month Membership to the California Wine Club to facilitate this review.
Founded by Bruce and Pam Boring in 1990, the California Wine Club was born of the Boring’s growing frustration as they tried to find truly great wine. They were overwhelmed and frustrated by the options available, but always loved the recommendations received from their friends. Therefore, California Wine Club came into existence with the concept of “one friend recommending a great bottle of wine to another friend”.
I was blessed recently with a two month subscription to the California Wine Club. Read about my first month’s wines HERE. This month, my selections were from Daniel Gehrs Wines.
The Merlot is a wonderful Bordeaux-style blend of 87% Merlot, 9% Malbec and 4% Cabernet Franc. Merlot tends to go great with Italian food, pasta, and heavier dishes that include red meat. California Wine Club recommends Prime Rib. This wine is ready to drink this holiday season or can be allowed to age in the bottle for another 3 years, or longer, with proper storage.
The Chenin Blanc featured lovely aromas of plum, clover honey and wild flowers married to complex flavors of fresh pears and melon with a crisp zesty finish. The CWC recommends serving this wine with seasoned chicken, spicy Asian food, and seafood.
Note from Bruce and Pam – “Dan is one of California’s best winemakers…. these wines show why.”
My final thoughts on the California Wine Club – These last two months have been a delightful voyage for me, enabling me to try wines I might not have tried otherwise. I had a definite favorite, but thoroughly enjoyed trying them all and appreciated the opportunity.
The CWC thoughtful selections and attention to detail would make this a gift that I would purchase for nearly anyone on my holiday list (if I didn’t keep it for myself) and I recommend them without reservation.
Please visit www.cawineclub.com for your holiday gifting needs. You may also connect with them on Facebook and Twitter!
The wonderful folks at CWC would like to introduce you to their wonderful service too and are generously offering one of my readers a $50 CWC Gift Certificate , U.S. only (must be 21 or older, sorry they cannot deliver to Utah). Thank you so much!
