It’s National Date Nut Bread Day!

Date nut bread is the perfect dish for the holiday season. It is delicious, healthy, and easy to make! One of my favorite dinners as a child was a big pot of baked beans that my mom served with homemade date nut bread! Yum!

The first date nut bread recipe appeared in print in 1939, but dates are one of the world’s oldest fruits. They even get a mention or two in the Bible! (2 Samuel 6:19; 1 Chronicles 16:3) Date seeds have been found in archaeology excavations of sub-tropical areas around the world.

Dates are known for their high sugar content, and most date nut bread recipes do not call for any additional sweeteners. To celebrate National Date Nut Bread Day, try your hand at baking a homemade loaf of this delicious treat! Don’t forget to top it off with a little vegan cream cheese!
