For many years I always had a box of Borax in my laundry room. I used it in the diaper pail when presoaking cloth diapers and added it as a laundry booster to baby clothes to help clean and sweeten little garments.
20 Mule Team Borax is 100% natural mineral from the earth. Once removed from the ground it is washed, dried and boxed for consumers. Borax is the common name for sodium tetraborate: a naturally occuring substance produced by the perpetual evaporation of seasonal lakes. Absolutely nothing is added to this product. There are no phosphates, chlorine, or other additive chemicals.
Over 85% of homes have hard water – water that contains calcium and magnesium. When you add detergent to hard water some of those compunds attach to the calcium and magnesium and wash down the drain. They are not effectively cleaning your clothing. 20 Mule Team Borax naturally softens water which protects your detergent. This results in cleaner clothing.
Living in a rural area and depending on well water for our needs has been interesting. Our water is very very hard and contains lots of tanin which results in nasty yellowing on all of my light colored clothing. We tried a water softener system, but frankly, I didn’t like the way my skin and hair felt after bathing in artificially softened water.
Now, I’ve rediscovered the wonderful practice of adding 20 Mule Team Borax to my wash loads to naturally soften the water and boost my detergent’s cleaning power. Yay! No more toting my light colored clothes all the way to the laundramat in town!
Simply by adding 1/2 cup to each load, my clothes are clean, bright and smell delightfully fresh.
