My furkids are important members of my family. As such, I want to insure that I feed them well and with foods that supply the nutrients they need and help to satisfy their instinctual cravings.
Recently, I was invited to review the newest addition to the Taste of the Wild family – Southwest Canyon. Specifically made for dogs that thrive on a diet of red meat, this new formula was made to provide a unique source of protein – wild boar.
Taste of the Wild Southwest Canyon formula is grain free and replaces potatoes with chickpeas and peas lowering the glycemic index for stabilizing blood glucose levels. Chickpeas, for dogs as well as humans, also provide protein, vitamins and minerals giving a bit of extra ‘oompf’ to this great formula.
The Southwest Canyon dry kibble provides 29% protein and 15% fat while the canned formula provides 8.25% protein and 5% fat to help supply your dog with the energy he needs.
The facts sound wonderful, don’t they? The facts don’t matter, however, if your dog won’t eat it. Thankfully, my furkids loved it. Even our senior, Fleego, who doesn’t really get excited about her food these days (unless it’s the forbidden tablefood) gobbled it right up and looked for more. Cooper liked it so much, I saved out a pouch to use as training treats!
Southwest Canyon, as well as the other fine offerings in the Taste of the Wild family are available at many fine retailers. Please check the handy dandy product locator to find one near you! Taste of the Wild would also like to connect with you on Facebook!
To introduce you to their wonderful line of pet foods, Taste of Wild would like to offer one of my readers a chance to win a great prize packwhich will include samples of Southwest Canyon, a $25 gift card to PetFoodDirect.comfor your furkid and a $25 gift card to Omaha Steaks for you (a little red meat for everyone!). Thank you so much!

My dogs LOVE TotW and I love how silky their coats are (with the pacific formula) and how healthy they look.
My dog has been eating TotW since he was a puppy. I rotate through the flavors to keep things interesting, and having a new flavour to try out is extra exciting! I’m sure he’ll love it like he likes all the others, however, Pacific Stream is by far his favorite. I worked in animal nutrition for 3 years, and this is definitely a food I recommend for a lot of dogs.
My guys did well on Taste of the Wild Sierra formula. TOTW seems to do well for most any dog with sensitive stomachs.
I just started feeding TOW to my new puppy and she loves it.. So far i love the quality or this food!
I found this at a local retailer, my labramutt loves it. He also has always had problems with highs and lows, this food so far seems to be helping stabilize his energy levels.

My dogs have done very well on Taste of the Wild for the last several years. Our dog Ella is super sensitive to foods and this is one of the only foods she can eat.
I just learned that TOWT has wet food too! My dog is going to be so spoiled.
I did make the mistake last month of switching my dog and cat from the pacific stream kind to the high prairie kind because my store was out of his regular. He’s had the runs, as well as the cat. Bubble guts. I intend on keeping them on the Salmon flavor one for now on. They love it.
My two boys thrive on TOTW!
Right now we’re huge fans of the wetland formula. Our newest has food allergies and it’s done wonders for his health.
My boys love taste of the wild, would love to try this one!

We use the salmon food for a dog with skin issues. Just learned that these foods are also grain free.
I have been wanting to switch my cats and dog onto better foods. Old man Wolfe is 13, and our last attempt at high quality food was science diet. I found out after getting it that it was mostly grain, not to mention very crumbly and his itching has gotten worse. Wanting to try him out on this, as I have been reading good things.
Would like to try the Rocky Mountain Feline formula and the Southwest Canyon Canine formula.
I would like to try the PACIFIC STREAM PUPPY FORMULA.
Southwest Canyon® Canine Formula with Wild Boar
When we adopted Bella she was on ALPO! So we switched her to TOTW Wetlands! SHE LOVES IT!
this is one of the dog foods sold in my all natural pet stores, like it b/c no grain, really like the roasted bison and venison. good combo….good for dogs w/ allergies, low fat, protein, include ingredients for digestive health such as chicory root, and veggies, such as sweet potatoes for beta carotene
I love that it is grain free so that allergies are mostly eliminated!
We feed our boys Taste fo the wild. Would love to try Pacific Stream Canine® Formula!!
I just recently switched to Taste of the Wild High Prairie. The reason I switched is, my family is getting an Alaskan Malamute puppy and after speaking with numerous breeders and owners, all recommended Taste of the Wild. I was feeding my dog good quality food – but, I have noticed since I switched him, he has gained some weight (he always has been on the skinnier side) and my veterinarian is very happy about that. Also, he got more active and “spunky”. I love the fact that Taste of the Wild is grain free. I am glad that I have switched to Taste of the Wild!
I learned that their products are made with real meats, and are grain free!
My cats love Rocky Mountain Feline Formula!
I feed High Prairie and Pacific Stream due to allergies of one of my 8 dogs
I feed my shepherd the HIgh Prairie formula. After I actually researched dog foods and realized that what I was giving him was not nutritional at all, I switched. This food has done wonders. The bowl is always empty now and going to the bathroom is always much more healthy. Highly recommend.
Also interested in trying the high prairie formula as it it venison based and I’ve been making venison jerky as treats for my dogs for years and they love it. Also love this new formula as dogs love wild boar too, mine do anyway and it’s such an interesting and different protein source for the dogs.
Also, love the new info collection with rafflecopter so I don’t miss out if yahoo decides to reroute my win message to bulk mail and I miss it. Thank you
Rocky Mountain Feline Formula or wet food
Both of my furbabies have allergies to grain. Zoey has them so ad that if she eats even a little food with grain she will break out all over her body and in her mouth and we have to go to the vet and get her a shot. We had tried some of the other grain free foods but they didn’t seew to like it so when we tryed this food they gobbled it up fast so we knew we had a winner. They like all the flavors Evey couple of months or so we get a different flavor so that they don’t have to eat the same all the time I wouldnt want to have to eat the same flavor of something all the time would you? I don’t think they have a favorite kind but we haven’t got to try the Wild Southwest Canyon flavor yet we have looked for it but can’t ever find it. They food is so healthy for then my Dacshund Bella is black and everyone always comes up asking us what we feed her cause her coat is so shinny and soft. We also started feed it to our cats and they also love it. We ran out of it on day and they place we can get it was closed so we just got them a small bag of the food we used to feed them and they wouldn’t go near it. They only like the Rocky M ountain feline withe the roasted venison and smoked salmon. I tell everyone I know about how amazing this food is and hope to get my Zoey and Bella the Wild Southwest Canyon flavor I am sure they will love it.
Taste of the Wild is honestly the best dog/cat food out there. I have raised Lads. For years. Also Giant woolys. And they love it. They only eat what the body needs and there that gives them lean bodies and 100% healthy animals. They even sleep better.
I also raise Bangle Cats. They also are so much happier eating TOTW. They are more leaner and act more like the intense Cats that they are. And for me that is everything that I demand from a Animal food.
Thank you so much TOTW….we are all happy campers here.
(the only thing missing is a zip lock package!!)
Their products are certified antibiotic & hormone-free.
A grain-free formula with sweet potatoes and peas provides highly digestible energy for your active dog.
I learned that Bison is a lean meat, highly digestible and an excellent source of essential amino acids. This ingredient would be considered a unique or unusual protein source, so it is a great choice for pets that have some food sensitivities or allergies.
